Some POPVOX users have asked us, “Why can I only support re-introduction at this time?” As you know, when the 112th Congress adjourned, all the bills and resolutions — more than 12,000 of them — being considered by that Congress “died.” They now have to be re-introduced in order to be considered by the 113th Congress.
Some bills are never re-introduced because they are no longer relevant. Other bills aren’t re-introduced because their sponsor didn’t return to office (for example, if they lost their re-election bid or retired). On POPVOX, users can begin weighing in on a bill as soon as it is re-introduced in the 113th Congress. But sometimes, waiting for a Member of Congress to sponsor the bill for introduction may take weeks or months. As an interim step, we have created a “support re-introduction” option — to urge your Member of Congress to support re-introduction, or to add their name to the bill as an “original co-sponsor.” If you don’t want the bill re-introduced, simply do nothing at this time. If the bill is re-introduced, POPVOX will send our users that weighed in on the bill in the 112th Congress an email alert. At that point, you can come back to POPVOX and write a letter to Congress supporting — or opposing — the bill, which we will deliver, guaranteed.
