Summertime in Washington, DC means lots of tourists visiting the nation’s capital. The Smithsonian Institution, founded in 1846, is the world’s largest museum and research complex, consisting of 19 museums and galleries, the National Zoological Park and nine research facilities.

New Museums and Memorials
- HR 1217 Smithsonian American Latino Museum Act: To establish within the Smithsonian Institution the Smithsonian American Latino Museum. (And S 568 in the Senate.)
- S 398 National Women’s History Museum Commission Act: A bill to establish the Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Women’s History Museum. (And HR 863 in the House.)
- S 1044 World War II Memorial Prayer Act: to direct the Secretary of the Interior to install in the area of the World War II Memorial in the District of Columbia a suitable plaque or an inscription with the words that President Franklin D. Roosevelt prayed with the United States on D-Day, June 6, 1944. (And HR 2175 in the House.)
- HR 222 Frank Buckles World War I Memorial Act: To amend the World War I Centennial Commission Act to provide for the designation of memorials to the service of members of the United States Armed Forces in World War I.
- HCRes 27 Resolution supporting the formation of a bipartisan Presidential Commission to study the establishment of a National Museum of the American People.
- HR 503 National Desert Storm and Desert Shield War Memorial Act: To authorize the National Desert Storm Memorial Association to establish the National Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial as a commemorative work in the District of Columbia.
- HR 1126 Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Completion Act: To facilitate the completion of an appropriate national memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower.
- HR 165 Man in the Sea Memorial Act: To authorize the placement at the former Navy Dive School at the Washington Navy Yard of a memorial to honor the members of the Armed Forces who have served as divers and whose service in defense of the United States has been carried out beneath the waters of the world.
- HR 865 To establish the African Burial Ground International Memorial Museum and Educational Center in New York, New York.
How Museums are Run
- HR 2622 Open and Transparent Smithsonian Act: To provide for the application of sections 552, 552a, and 552b of title 5, United States Code (commonly referred to as the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act), and the Federal Advisory Committee Act (5 U.S.C. App.) to the Smithsonian Institution.
- HR 2620 Smithsonian Modernization Act: To revise the composition of the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution so that all members are individuals appointed by the President from a list of nominees submitted by the leadership of the Congress
- HR 2621 To prohibit the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution from charging a fee for admission to any exhibit which is part of the permanent collection of any museum or facility which is part of any bureau established in or under the Smithsonian Institution.
- HR 1497 War Memorial Protection Act: to ensure that memorials commemorating the service of the United States Armed Forces may contain religious symbols. (And S 705 in the Senate.)
